Let Your Inner Light Shine: A Journaling and Yoga Workshop
TBA | 4600 Copper Avenue NE

"What you have in you that you bring forth will save you...." Gnostic Gospels
Yoga and Journaling give us a chance to go inside to that quiet, still place and reflect. They help to show us the places where we are stuck, and how we hold ourselves back from the flow of life and our fullest potential. By showing up to the mat and the page, we can work through those obstacles to reach more peace, more grace and clearer self-expression.
It's so easy to get caught up in the daily maintaining of our lives. It is such a precious thing to take the time to be reflective, to ask those big questions: Who am I? What do I want out of my life, now and in the future? What do I have to share with the world? What matters to me? Even if we don't get big answers right away, if we take the time and practice asking the questions, illumination will come. During this workshop we will explore writing exercises to bring curiosity and clarity, and Yogic postures that help to connect/ground us in ourselves and open the channels of our voice (personal expression) and creativity. The process of exploring and sharing ourselves in a group setting can be such an enriching experience. Come shine your light.
Katja Lauterstein has a Bachelors in Creative Writing from University of New Mexico and has been journaling since those lock and key diaries. She has been practicing Yoga since early 1990s and teaching since 2010. Her teaching style encourages self-awareness and gentle exploration.

Angela Farmer, Victor Van Kooten and Rama Jyoti Vernon
A Reunion of Friends
$395/450 | 4600 Copper Avenue NE

A Reunion of Friends
This 4-day workshop will inspire you to reflect inward and reconnect with deep springs of wisdom, energy and creativity that lie within. You will be invited to go beyond prescribed techniques of structural movement to allow the creative and intuitive spirit to emerge. Angela, Victor and Rama create an oasis for those seeking a more internal and meditative approach. While Angela and Victor offer a wealth of poetic imagery, playful exploration and creative movement, Rama weaves meditation, pranayama and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali into asana and leads chanting in her unique, moving manner...all geared to help you find your way back to your own inner substance, guidance and wisdom.
Angela and Victor lean toward a somatics-based approach, more than much of what is found in traditional yoga teaching. Rama’s approach emphasizes opening the body by extending and breathing into each pose as a deeply spiritual offering. Instead of teaching poses to the body, disciplining the body with external commands, they help students enliven their bodies in a way that allows the asana to evolve from an inner need. Students explore movement deeply within their bodies and unwind old blockages and holdings. While their teaching style is accessible and seemingly formless, they remain devoted to all the tenets of the practice of yoga and emphasize body-mind-spirit involvement in asana.
Once in a while exceptional teachers come our way that inspire and open new doors for us. Angela, Victor and Rama (now in their 70's although you won’t believe it when you meet them!) have been at the cutting edge of yoga for almost 50 years. Drawing on their wealth of experience and working between the form and the formless they invite us to deepen and explore from the authentic heart of our own practice. A session with these exceptional teachers is a journey of discovery.
You will be encouraged to explore your own potential from the inside out. Their style could be called “Authentic,” “True” or “Natural” Yoga. It may even be the “Original” Yoga!
Through connecting to the energy body and the breath, the life force essence that animates the physical for the journey from birth to the greatest adventure, you create space and movement, getting in touch with the sacred through self-discovery. Their workshops are accessible to all, no matter what style or level of Yoga practice.
“Everything we teach is about helping people move inside and experience their Yoga in a way that gives them a deeper and warmer sense of themselves.” Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten
“Workshops facilitated by Angela and Victor are among the more unusual in the world. Students develop an entirely new perspective on their Yoga.” Yoga Journal
“Rama Vernon's unique, deep knowledge of all aspects of Yoga laid the foundation of contemporary Yoga in America today.” Lilias Folan, PBS host and author Lilias! Yoga Gets Better with Age
Angela Farmer has been teaching Yoga worldwide for over 45 years. She studied with B.K.S. Iyengar and made several trips to India, meeting and interacting with numerous saints and yogis. While visiting the temple of Karnak in Egypt she underwent a personal transformation that led to her departure from tradition and male teachings. Trusting the inner world of intuition, energy and organic breath, she uncovered her own practice and process of 'undoing' that invites a dialogue with the body and brings feeling, movement and freedom back to Yoga. This she believes is the feminine approach.
Victor Van Kooten is a Dutch Yoga teacher and artist who studied with B.K.S. Iyengar in the late sixties and seventies. Since 1984, Victor has been teaching with Angela as they inspire each other to dive deeper and keep fresh a creative and joyful approach to the practice of Yoga. His books, “From Inside Out” (I-IV) are illustrated Yoga notebooks based on the teachings he and Angela have developed.
Rama Jyoti Vernon studied with B.K.S. Iyengar in her home and in India for nearly a decade. Ultimately, she became one of America’s first Yoga teachers, and was instrumental in bringing many great teachers from India to the U.S., co-founding the Yoga Journal and developing organizations such as Unity in Yoga, to unite all lineages of Yoga. In the 1980s, Rama applied Yoga philosophy to international peacemaking, traveling to the USSR dozens of times and founding the Center for International Dialogue, based on the idea that people can join together to initiate solutions for political, economic, ecological, humanitarian and cultural conflicts.
